The World's Biggest Playgroup Day
(Wednesday 25th March 2009)

Enmore Park Playgroup have been celebrating a great cause. Between the 22nd March to the 28th March 2009 they joined in the Australia-wide activities for National Playgroup Week.

Families with babies and kids under school age, took part in a free, fun picnic in the park held in Newtown at Collyer Playground, corner of Pearl and Wells Streets on Wednesday 25th March from 10am to 12noon.

At the same time, tens of thousands of Aussie babies, pre-schoolers, mums, dads, grandparents and other caregivers, were involved in a range of fun events run in every state and territory.

"National Playgroup Week is the perfect time for parents with babies and children under five to discover what playgroup is about," said Simone (Enmore Park Playgroup Co-ordinator).

This week was devoted to play for the under fives and their families.

Worlds Biggest Playgroup Day, on Wednesday 25th March, is to remind families that play is how little ones learn and develop.

"Playgroup is an informal session where mums, dads, grandparents, caregivers, children and babies meet together in a relaxed environment."

"In a playgroup, the adults stay to interact with other adults and to play with their children. It's different to child care, because it promotes parent-to-parent support networks, and encourages parent-to-child bonding through play."
