What car will they drive?
The Mongol Rally isn't about comfort and it doesn't have a great deal to do with style; it's primary purpose is adventure. So the one litre rule was born. What's the point of setting out on an adventure if the end result is a foregone conclusion? In this light what's the point of the Mongol Rally if you could do it in a Land Rover? The only hurdle you would face would be remembering to fill the petrol tank. Any car with more than 1000cc of umph is strictly forbidden as over-powered, and as a risk to your ability to have fun.
New this year is a rule coming from the Mongolian Government meaning that cars donated to charity in Mongolia must be LESS than 10 years old.

Our car is a Renault Clio. This sucker is bare bones, no A/C, no CD player, no Power Steering, no sunroof, there is an engine under the bonnet but you have to search hard to find it (it's the small thing sitting next to the battery).
It's clearly been owner by a farmer, it has what looks like home made sheepskin seat covers to hide I dont know what on the seats, there is an inch of dust/dirt covering everything inside, but all in all I think it is a sound vehicle. We will see......!
